The OFD is used for termination, interconnection, and splicing of outside plant cable. The OFD provides a convenient, centralized point for optical fiber access and outside plant cable termination, as well aw fiber organization, storage and accommodation of splices and connectors.
The OFD is well suited to branch off outside plant cable in central offices, of customer premises. The fiber drop is terminated at OFD with connectors (e.g. mountable connectors ) added to the fiber ends. The customer then connects to those terminated fibers through the fiber distribution housing in the OFD.
