A splice junction is a relatively vulnerable point in a optical fiber cable in terms of possible water contamination and maintaining fiber and cable integrity. The better the closure surrounding this splice, the less chance of catastrophic failure from any and all causes. The requirement for a perfect closure falls into four major areas : Flexibility : The closure should provide multiple cable entrances and should be applicable to any type of telecommunication plant environment such as vaults, carrier and standard applications. Sealing : Reentry and closing should be accomplished with a minimum amount of disturbance to the cables and the splice connectors. The method used to seal the closure should be such that reentry or additional work is not required to close the case a number of additional times after the initial closing. Materials : Those materials used in producing the closure should be resistant to chemicals and corrosive atmosphere. There should be no question as to their service life. In addition, closure in vaults and building environments should be fire retardant. Complexity of Application : It should not require the performance of work functions which are unfamiliar to the technician or overly complicated. The closure needs to be light weight. Our closure is largely divided into two parts-outer closure, inner closure. The inner closure performs all of the usual closure function and provides the protected air space for splices and fibers. The encapsulant (compound) and outer closure protect the aluminum inner closure in buried and underground installation and in aerial plant where required due to corrosion, such as sea coast installation. (The inner closure only-for use in vaults and non corrosive aerial application. ) Our cables enter at either the left ports or right ports of the base and are anchored, bonded, and sealed outboard of the splicing cavity. Urethane gromments and encapsulant are used to provide the seal the closure can accommodate
When ordering this closure, the cable type (Stranded or slot. Etc.) and outer diameter must be specified.
