The issue’s first section “Focus” contains the interview with Nikolay Voropay, Professor, AM of RAS, Director of the Power System Institute named after L.А. Melentyev, SB RAS, who comments on the actual issues of reliability of de-centralized power systems.

Another interesting material here is the report about the visit of the Russian delegation headed by Yuri Sentyurin, State Secretary, Deputy Minister of Energy of RF, to Congo Republic, where several workshops were held dedicated to prospects for collaboration between Congo and Russia in the field of power industry.

The section “Events” opens with the report from the International Smart Grid Exhibition in Tokyo (4th INT’L SMART GRID EXPO – 2014), where the magazine “ELECTRIC POWER. Transmission and Distribution” was the exclusive media partner from Russia with its own booth.

The section also contains detailed reports about the round table in the Federation Council dedicated to key problems related to restructuring of the power grid complex and about the Russia-China round table headed by I.D. Grachev, Chairman of the State Duma Committee for Energy. The magazine “ELECTRIC POWER. Transmission and Distribution” was the co-organizer of these events.

Another important event in the field of power industry was 9-year anniversary of MOESK, JSC - the major grid company of Russia - establishment.
The article “Smart Grid Evolution Trends in Russia” by Vladimir Sofyin, Head of Technological Development and Innovations Department of Russian Grids, JSC is published in the section “Technical Policy”.

The interview with Alexander Mikhalev, Chief Engineer of the Far East Distribution Grid Company, tells how power engineers of the Far East prepare to the coming flood – the first hand feedback – in the section “Assets and Risk Management”.

The section “Process Connection” contains articles dedicated to two topics: the first one is arrangement by employees of “Sverdlovenergo”, IDGC of Urals, JSC branch, of a trend forum in a popular Web-site of Ekaterinburg, to support additional online cooperation of bidders and power engineers in the process connection to electric grids; another topic is feasibility of preferential process connection reviewed by Boris Berlin, Director General of “URESK”, JSC. 

The problem of power supply of isolated Russian regions is the topic of the article “New Technologies of Power Supply of Isolated Regions of the North”. Another material published here is the article by ZAO “Inter” about the data acquisition and processing subsystem of the transformer monitoring system of digital substations.  
The article written by specialists of System Operator of UES, JSC about development of PMU-based monitoring and control systems in the Russian UES is of significant interest. Besides, it might be interesting to read the material by ZAO “RTSoft” about the state-of-the-art approach to automation of a 20 kV distribution grid. These materials are found in the section “Network Management”.

The section “Electric Power Quality” considers application problems and perspectives of the modern digital meters (“Elektropribor”, JSC), products of a new professional line of automation means– EKF PROxima (EKF Company).

Specialists of “MOESK”, JSC consider application of DSP technology for power industry modernization to improve the consumer power supply in the section “Substations”.
The section “Equipment” is extensive and diverse. It represents new developments of companies “NIPOM”,JSC, PG “Transformator”, “HPF Tekhenergocomplex”, “Sverdlov Factory of Current Transformers”, JSC, ”ABB” Low Voltage Equipment, LLC, Rittal, MENNEKES, OOO “Seba Spektrum”, and the benchmarking study of different type accumulator batteries designed for application in mains storage units carried out by “VNIIR”, JSC.

A new generation of OHL towers based on sectionalized reinforced concrete poles is described in the section “Overhead Transmission Lines” by specialists of “SevZap NTTS”, JSC. Besides, this section contains articles “Wood vs. Concrete” (ООО “Perviy Derevopropitochniy Zavod”), “Optimal Cost & Quality Combination” (ООО “Apsalyam Combinat Stroykonstruktsiy i Materialov”), “Important Reliability Factor” that describes improvement of efficiency of clearing and extension works for OHL rights-of-way by “IDGC of Centre”, JSC; “Problems of the domestic market of insulators and accessories can be resolved” by “PO “Forenergo”, “IDGC of North-West will bring OHL rights-of-way in the due condition” and “NP “Elektrosetizolyatsia” has obtained the state registration”.

The section “SRO in Power Industry” tells about establishment of the Information SRO Center of NP “ENERGOSTROY” that acquires purchase information from all major electronic trade sites of Russia.

Reports from most interesting field-specific events are available in the section “Exhibitions, Conferences” – these are Cabex-2014, XII International Exhibition and Conference “Russia POWER 2014” and IV International Exhibition and Conference “Hydro Vizion Russia 2014”, International Research Conference named after Academician Nikolay Tikhodeev. Besides, here you can find the description of “Siemens” exposition at the exhibition “Russia POWER 2014”.

The new section of the magazine – “Milestone” - contains materials dedicated to 55-year jubilee of ZAO “ZETO” and 30-year anniversary of “Tyumenenergo”, JSC foundation.

In the section “Labor Protection” safety and health regulation issues are considered in the report from the seminar-meeting held by Russian Grids, JSC in Saratov, and the article “Clothes protect power engineers against the chain saw” by “Energokontakt”.

The section “Human Resources” contains an interesting article “The career begins at school” that tells about the program carried out by the International Association of Corporate Education (MAKO) together with representatives of the Charity Fund «Reliable Shift», that has started in Surgut.
