An Italian energy and telecom cable plant in Claremont will spend $54 million and add 50 jobs as it works to expand production there by 60%.
The project marks the third expansion at Prysmian Group’s Catawba County plant in the last three years that have added 120 employees to the workforce there. At last count, 500 worked at the Claremont facility.
Steve Linden, Prysmian’s optical fiber director of operations, says the latest expansion will help establish the plant as a major facility among the Italian company’s plants.
“These investments have been critical to making our Claremont facility self-sufficient from internal Prysmian supply from Europe while providing additional logistic and quality control advantages,” Linden says.
