ABB announces a new design and a new era of industrial robots

World of robotics has changed dramatically over the past 40 years, and now it is entering a new era. ABB Robotics responds to changes in its equipment reflecting contemporary reality.

In 1974, ABB introduced the world's first all-electric industrial robot with microprocessor control. Over the past 40 years an amazing amount of incredible improvement and innovation appeared in the industry of industrial robotics. Also, the products offered by ABB improved and developed, but one thing has remained constant: the color of robots.

In those days, when the company started to deliver new ABB robotic products, it was clearly decided that the orange color is most relevant for security. We want people to always remember that they are working with equipment that can be potentially dangerous. But times change and ABB is changing with them.

Today we are entering a new era of robotics, in which the interaction between humans and robots is real. Recent advances in hardware and software have allowed a new generation of robots that can work in peace alongside humans. In the past, bright color was needed for security, but in the new era of robots they are friendlier.

At the same time the company ABB has changed. We are aware of the power of its brand around the world and our unique ability to provide customers integrated solutions. New design and color will ensure that you will easily recognize ABB robots.

- Today we are announcing a new way, which is both more modern and better suited to the era of cooperation, - Per Vegard Nerset says , the head of the Department of Robotics ABB Group. - We call this style "dynamic design" and it is based on the concept of effective solutions in ABB dynamic world. Besides the fact that a new image includes unique shapes and surfaces, it also comes with a new color - "white graphite".

The best example of the new design was recently launching into the market of IRB 6700robot. Everything from the surfaces of the manipulator and finishing color is done in a new style. Since May 2014 all the standard ABB robots have been delivered in the color "white graphite", and each new model of the robot, which we will release, will now also be based on the philosophy of dynamic design. Traditional orange color will remain in the free version before the end of 2014, but our customers continue to be able to order our robots made in any color they want.
